Club Only Competition - Porter Showdown

July 27, 2012 12:00 AM

There were 11 entries into the Brasseurs a la Maison Porter Club Only Competition, making up the sub categories of Brown, Robust, and Baltic Porters.  Each entrant was required to bring 3 bottles as well as some to share with the group.  In addition to the beer, and entry fee of 5 dollars was suggested so that the winner had shipping covered and his/her next bar tab covered.  Jules volunteered his office's lakefront pavillion, which was an amazing location for the tasting.

SInce no one in the club is an experienced acclaimed judge presently, we reached out into the local beer community for guest judges.  Without any heistation we had amassed 5 judges:

Andrew Godley - Owner/Brewer Parish Brewing

Will Gallaspy - Brewer Parish Brewing - BJCP Certified Judge

Aaron Hyde - Owner Brewstock Homebrew supplies

Josh Erickson - Owner/Brewer Chafuntka Brewing

Sal Mortillaro - Mystic Krewe of Brew member - BJCP judge in training

A huge thank you goes out to the judges who traveled into Baton Rouge from out of town on a Tuesday night.

After a long tasting session, the judges had come to a decision.  Jules Baumann was declared a winner with his Robust Porter.  So Jules held serve on his home court to earn the honor of mailing his prize winning beer to the COC representing Brasseurs a la Maison.

Congrats Jules.

Even though the rest of us didn't win we did recieve 5 really detailed score sheets, which shold give everyone a nice guideline to better their beer for the future.
